A self-taught photographer for 15 years or so, I have steered my technique primarily (but not exclusively) towards the photography of dogs and other pets, but I am versatile and able to photograph a variety of subjects (see my portfolio).Ted photographing Collie Dogs at the Shining Tor Peak, Peak District National Park, Derbyshire, UK

Primarily my style is that of a 'lifestyle photographer' as opposed to the more usual studio photographer, so I usually photograph dogs outdoors in their natural environment - I find the finished prints demonstrate the dogs natural character and agility far better this way. I also photograph police dogs and attend several fund raising events each year hosted by the RSPCA and the smaller rehoming shelters wherein prints are sold at a reduced rate and profits donated to the respective charities\shelters.

On the whole I try to utilize the natural light and all of my work is un-manipulated. I can and will photograph using either digital storage or traditional professional films (especially black & white film) to store the image depending on the requirements and intended outcomes. Being able to do both places me in an unusually unique position in the market today.

I write an informal online blog wherein I document some of my favourite locations for the benefit of other photographers. In 2009 one of my Butterfly photos was chosen and published for a 2010 and 2011 World Wildlife Fund Butterfly calendar.

A usual sitting with a client consists of either a morning or an afternoon block - I do not charge by the hour and instead take as long as it needs to obtain a good selection of shots, subject to the animals cooperation of course! I will never ask an animal to 'work' for a shoot more than he wants to.

If you would like to know more, would like to book a sitting, are interested in hiring me for a charity event, or wish to see the full price list I am best contacted by e-mail at
tedsmith@tedsmithphotography.com  where I will usually reply within 48 hours.
